Most of the questions asked me from potential buyers of Garritan products is, "Will Garritan work on GarageBand?" My answer is a qualified, "Yes." Qualified in that most of what you need to produce outstanding orchestrations is available to you within GarageBand. Unfortunately, GarageBand also has its limitations. For example, in the Jazz samples are several guitars. To add Vibrato requires the Aftertouch MIDI control which is not available for editing via GarageBand. This is a limitation in GarageBand, not the Garritan products. You also do not have access to "channels" so all of your Garritan assignments must be set to OMNI.

Though powerful, GarageBand is not a professional editing application. For those of us who are willing to live with its minor shortcomings, professional results are indeed possible! Listen to some of my pieces created in GarageBand using Garritan products. These examples were downloaded from the Internet, imported in to GarageBand, then assigned instruments from Garritan instruments. A little mixing and a few effects assignment later--a finished work is created!

If you have GarageBand and have just received your Garritan package, then read on for installation instructions. If you have the the latest ARIA player, click on the "Aria" catagory below and you will find specific instructions for getting started with this version. The good news is that Aria works far better and more efficiently in GarageBand than the previous Kontakt Player.

I hope these articles are a help to you in getting started. So have fun!
